Introducing our new Kids line!

It’s amazing how much there is to learn when you are a small business owner. When we first started our business, we did all different types of photography. We were jacks-of-all-trade because we thought we needed to do everything in order to pay our bills. Only gradually did we begin to learn one of the most fundamental principles of business: the importance of a strong brand.

Eventually, we realized that we wanted Kyo Morishima Photography to stand for something. We wanted people who encountered us to have an instant sense of the kind of work we did. And we realized that the best way to do that was to dramatically narrow our focus and become really, really good at one specific thing.

We picked wedding photography. We felt (and still feel) that we have something special to offer: a warm, relaxed style of capturing the day, combining lots and lots of candid moments with classic portraits that seem more natural than posed.

Wow! Our new business strategy worked. Over the past couple years our business has been getting stronger and stronger and we’ve been working with amazing clients who inspire us every day with their creativity and passion for life.

Now, our gut instinct tells us that our brand is ready to grow.

Kids and Family Portraits!

We relaunched our Kids and Family Photography this week, with a very specific vision. We are bringing the same warm, relaxed, documentary style of photography to family portraits, and we’re giving you exactly what we would want ourselves: a book that tells your story, and a collection of high resolution photographs with unlimited printing rights.

We are SO excited. We’ve been wanting to get back to Kids and Family photography for a long time. First of all, kids are just plain fun to photograph. They’re goofy, they’re spontaneous, they’re unpredictable — they’re the very definition of photogenic.

Second, Kyo is naturally good with kids, and it seemed a shame not to be taking advantage of this inborn talent! The same low-key, friendly vibe that makes him such a hit with anxious brides translates well with kids, too. Even the most suspicious or shy little ones eventually let down their guard.

And finally, we’re a family ourselves. The photos we have of our own two kids (who are growing up way, way too fast — sound familiar??) are so precious to us. The idea of creating beautiful photos of children that parents can hold onto for years and years, until those kids are long grown and have babies of their own… it makes us very happy. It feels like the right thing to do.
