India House Wedding: Catherine and Dan

We first met Catherine and Daniel over a Skype call — Catherine lives in Texas, and Daniel was working in NYC at the time, so we weren’t able to meet in person. We had a nice time chatting about their wedding, and how they got engaged (on a hike at Lake Minnewaska). But it was when we somehow stumbled on the topic of coffee that the conversation really got lively. Catherine is a huge coffee freak and gave us so many recommendations about her favorite coffee spots in lower Manhattan — I was taking notes, and I had trouble keeping up!

“Near Union Square, I like Irving Farm,” she told us. ” Other places I like that are downtown are Joe Coffee, Cafe Grumpy, Blue Bottle and Intelligentsia. La Columbe is one of my absolute favorites, and they have several locations around Soho, Chelsea, and Wall Street.”

We told her that she should open a cafe in Texas, where she and Daniel are living now. “Maybe someday!” she smiled.

Catherine and Daniel got married at India House, a hidden gem in the Financial District. It was Kyo’s first time photographing a wedding there, and we were so happy Catherine and Dan discovered it. It’s an old building full of charm, and the catering company that runs it, Masterpiece Catering, does a wonderful job. For a Manhattan wedding venue, it’s relatively affordable to boot.

Because Catherine and Dan were moving away from NYC right after their wedding, the reception was not just a celebration of their marriage, it was also a last hurrah and good-bye to all their NYC friends. As Catherine said, that was bittersweet…. But there weren’t any signs of sadness at their wedding. Just joy, dancing, and laughter. And of course, good coffee.
