Bouley Botanical Event: Carol’s Surprise Birthday Party
In July Kyo photographed two surprise parties for two special moms: the first one was a 60th birthday party at Bouley Botanical, and just a week later, he photographed a 75th birthday party at the Bouley Red Room! It was such a fun coincidence.
So today we wanted to show you some highlights from the Bouley Botanical event: a surprise party to celebrate Carol’s 60th birthday. Bouley Botanical is a special event space in Tribeca that opened late in 2013, and it’s such a unique spot for an intimate NYC event. Chef David Bouley wanted to create a place to showcase “urban farming in a controlled environment”, and Bouley Botanical does just that. Its floor to ceiling windows are stacked from top to bottom with copper planters whose contents – watercress, fennel, jasmine, sage, amaranth, and nasturtium, just to name a few – end up in the delectable dishes served to guests.
Bouley Botanical already has an outstanding reputation for service, food, and concept (no surprise, given Bouley’s vision and experience). It seats up to 75 people for sit-down dinners, and up to 100 for cocktail-style receptions. The open kitchen at the back gives it an especially homey feel, perfect for creating a warm, relaxed atmosphere.
As you can see from the pictures below, Carol was indeed totally surprised, and had a glorious time. I love the scene of her two granddaughters hiding behind a lemon tree at the front of the space, and seeing Carol’s look of shock as she enters the restaurant and sees all her friends and family there to celebrate her. And the last picture is priceless.
