Stonybrook Meadows November Tasting
Early in November, we visited Stonybrook Meadows farm on a bitterly cold and rainy Saturday night for a tasting at their store. A group of cooking students from the School of Culinary Arts in Philadelphia were there to demonstrate their skills using a variety of ingredients sourced from Stonybrook Meadows: eggs, vegetables, herbs, and of course, a variety of sausages.
I don’t know what made the evening feel so special — maybe it was the terrible weather? Sitting with a group of strangers at a long, narrow table in the barn, warming our fingers over steaming pumpkin soup and succulent broccoli raab sausages, making conversation with the enthusiastic chefs-to-be…. we had a wonderful time! But the very best part of the evening was after the dinner was over, when Ann delCampo, the owner of Stonybrook Meadows, took us on a private tour of the stables. She has almost every imaginable farm animal except cows: we met horses, pigs, a goat, rabbits, sheep, a llama, chickens, a dog, cats, and more pigs. As the freezing drizzle poured outside, the animals seemed pleased to have some friendly visitors.
If you enjoy farm visits as much as we do, we highly recommend Stonybrook Meadows. Ann plans a variety of events throughout the year, and you can even have a birthday party on the farm! A good idea for next year, perhaps…?
