Spring Lake Engagement Photos: Eliza and Pat’s Romantic Jersey Shore Evening
We loved working with Eliza & Dan because they’re really two of the most caring people you could ever meet. It was such a pleasure to help them bring the Spring Lake engagement photos they were dreaming of to life.
The Engagement
We absolutely love the story of how Eliza & Pat got engaged! Patrick had planned to take Eliza out for an early birthday celebration, at their favorite restaurant in Manhattan (The Little Owl). He told the that they would be coming early and wanted to have Champagne outside (which made sense to Eliza, because they celebrated her last birthday the same way!).
When they sat down, Eliza read what she thought was a birthday card from Pat (but it was actually a card expressing how much our relationship had meant to him). When she looked up from reading, he was down on one knee.
The Love Story
When we met Eliza & Pat, one thing was clear to us right away: they are so in love. They met in college in 2012 and have been head over heels for each other ever since. We asked them what they love most about one another, and their answers moved us. Eliza told us that Pat makes her calm, reminds her to be present, and always makes her feel that she’s truly understood. “I am always my happiest when around him,” she wrote. And Pat? He told us,
“I love how much Eliza cares for me and for everyone else. She is the most giving person I know. As I reflect back on my life my greatest experiences and moments have come from when we are together.”
(We’re not crying, you’re crying!)
The Session: Spring Lake Engagement Photos
Spring Lake is such a lovely place for portraits, because it has such a wide variety of picturesque backdrops in close proximity. There’s the beach, the lake with its wooden bridge, the park and pathways, and the boardwalk, to name a few.
Factor in all of the cute shops, cafes, ice cream parlors and pizza joints, and you really do have the type of location photographers dream of!
Get Comfortable and Be Yourself!
Since one of their favorite things to do is go for long walks together, it was the perfect thing for Eliza & Pat to do for their engagement session. Choosing something they already felt comfortable doing and enjoy was the best decision they could have made. In fact, we always recommend doing something that makes you and your partner feel relaxed for your shoot. It really helps you to feel comfortable and get the camera jitters out of the way before the big day!
The other thing we recommend for your engagement shoot? Incorporating elements that are unique to you! Eliza and Pat did a great job of this. They’re big football fans, so they brought two jerseys to wear in some of the photos. They also had a super fun idea to take a photo sitting on the boardwalk with their backs to the camera, displaying the numbers of their wedding date. They used it for their Save the Date cards!
