Japanese Wedding Photo Tour: Seiko and Toshihide
Seiko and Toshihide live in Yokohamashi outside Tokyo and got married in Hawaii just recently. They love New York City so they came here for their honeymoon, and while they were in NYC, they wanted a “Japanese wedding photo tour.” A wedding photo tour is a popular Japanese post-wedding event, where the couple, dressed in their wedding outfits, visits iconic locations while a photographer documents their journey.
In the old days, couples used to have their formal wedding portraits taken at a photo studio either before or after the wedding. Nowadays, another activity which is sort of the opposite of the studio portraits has become popular: the “trash the dress” photo session. The Japanese photo tour splits the difference. Photo tours tend to include a lot more formal, posed portraits, but the backdrop is real, dynamic locations, often outdoors, with passers-by and tourists often showing up in the photos.
Seiko and Toshihide stayed at the Plaza Hotel, then took the subway, visited Bethesda Fountain in Central Park, popped over to Grand Central Station and took a stroll with the Chrysler Building in the background, and finally headed over to the Brooklyn Bridge for portraits as the sun began to set.
Seiko looked pretty darn spectacular. Just in case you’re curious: her dress was Vera Wang, her shoes were Christian Louboutin, and her feather headband was Colette Malouf.
Hiroko Sacripante did a fabulous job with the hair and makeup, and tagged along for the whole photo shoot to make sure Seiko didn’t have a single stray hair. Star Limo provided a Japanese-speaking driver to ferry the whole group from location to location. It was a really fun day, and we wish Seiko and Toshihide many fond memories from their short but intense stay in New York City!
