Japanese engagement photos in NYC: Yuka and Koichi
Every now and then, a Japanese couple contacts us about taking their engagement photos in NYC. Kyo always enjoy those photo shoots because it gives him a chance to see the city through the eyes of people for whom everything there is new and inspiring. This engagement session was a perfect example of that.
Yuka and Koichi live and work in Tokyo and work together at an ad agency there. And they are getting married this year. When Koichi had to come to New York City for work for a month, they decided to use it as an opportunity to get engagement photos in what is, for them, an exotic and exciting location.
Yuka was only able to join him in NYC for 3 days, so they had a short time frame in which to schedule their engagement session. Wisely, they decided not to squeeze in multiple locations for photographs. They focused their time in two iconic spots: Brooklyn Bridge and Central Park. They had a fantastic time, laughing and goofing off and making friends with all the wildlife in the city. (It’s especially amazing when you consider how bad Yuka’s jet lag must have been!)
Squirrels are not native to Japan and are a very rare sight there. So Yuka and Koichi were amazed by the multitude of squirrels scampering around all the parks and public squares. And of course the squirrels in NYC are New Yorkers, too; they’re not fazed by people in the least. One cool-as-a-cucumber little squirrel let Yuka and Koichi get really close and chat with him. Maybe he wanted them to take him on a trip to Tokyo.
We always try to organize engagement sessions so they are a genuine reflection of the couple’s personalities and interests. At this photo session, the overriding spirit was a sense of playfulness… just like Yuka and Koichi. Congratulations, you two!
