Governors Island Wedding
A wedding on Governors Island checks off all my favorite aspects of a NYC wedding: water, city, and nature. The beauty of the island is that it is reached only by a ferry ride overlooking the skyline and the Statue of Liberty.
Whenever we photograph a wedding couple and their guests on the ferry, they’re surprised by how fun the ride is (and it makes for some great photos!). Just ask Annalize and Oliver, who took an Uber car to the ferry and a trolley car on the way back with us back in 2016. When we had asked them what type of transportation they’d be taking on their wedding day, they answered, “Almost every form,” another amazing aspect of a Governors Island wedding!
The island itself is a gorgeous place for a wedding; filled with nature and acres of waterfront land and parks. It’s amazing!
Some hidden gems we’ve found, perfect for picture-taking, are historical spots Fort Jay and Castle Williams. You can work with the Governors Island Trust to reserve private areas of the island, and with it your private ferry ride for you and your guests. From pictures in the city to a ferry to a waterfront ceremony in the park and a trolley back to the city, there are endless possibilities with a Governors Island wedding!
