NYC City Hall Wedding Photographer: Short, But Very Sweet Manhattan Wedding

Serving as Lilian and Mauricio’s NYC City Hall wedding photographer was especially significant for Kyo because… that’s where we got married! I suspect that lots of international couples get married there for a similar reason as us: Kyo had a short-term working visa that was about to expire, and so we faced a stark choice. Either get married, or break up.

As you can see, we chose the former, and so far, it seems to have been the right choice!

Lilian and Mauricio are another international couple like us, but in their case, neither one of them is American. Lilian is from Hong Kong, and Mauricio is from Brazil. But they met in NYC when they both attended Stern Business School at NYU. And after a long long distance relationship and rigorous job hunt, they’re building a life together in NYC, so it made sense to get married in the place they now call home.

Their Manhattan wedding was short and sweet, and very intimate: only their parents and two close relatives attended. They arrived at Manhattan City Hall at about 11:30 am, waited a short time until their number was called, and then tied the knot in a speedy ceremony with the clerk.

Afterwards, they celebrated with confetti-strewn family portraits at Mould fountain, a lovely 19th century fountain just outside City Hall (designed by the co-designer of Central Park’s Bethesda Fountain, Jacob Wrey Mould). Then they took a walk with Kyo from Brooklyn Bridge to the waterfront, pausing for wedding-day portraits all along the way.
