Governors Island Engagement Photos
These two beautiful people set the perfect tone for their Governors Island engagement photos: light-hearted, warm, curious, and full of enthusiasm. They rode bikes, gazed at art, lounged on a red hammock, and watched the sun set behind lower Manhattan and the Statue of Liberty.
Their story is so romantic and we know this sounds cheesy, but it really does seem like they were meant to be. Check out some of our favorite shots from their engagement session below…
Governors Island Engagement Photos
Governors Island is one of our favorite spots in NYC. It’s so much fun to take the ferry out to the park, and the whole island has such a peaceful feel. It’s hard to believe you’re only 10 minutes from the crowds and chaos of downtown Manhattan! The island is only 800 yards south of Manhattan, but it feels like an entirely different world.
Used as a military base starting in 1776, the Island was only decommissioned in 1996 (in fact, it was the longest-running military installation in US history). In 2003 it was transferred to the city and state of New York and the process of transforming it into a park began.
Today, the Island is literally filled with photogenic spots: the view of East River and the Statue of Liberty; “The Hills”, a gorgeous park of gently sloping hills with views of the city; the longest slide in NYC (three stories tall!); an 18th century fortress; art installations all over the island; and even a luxurious “glamping” retreat!
Governors Island is truly one of NYC’s the ideal spots for an engagement session.
