“From Inspiration to Publication”: Graphic Novel Day at Metuchen Library
On Sunday, March 13th, Janna moderated a panel discussion of three kids graphic novelists, Chris Giarrusso, Colleen AF Venable, and Misako Rocks!, at Metuchen Library. Each of them spoke about how they turn their ideas into finished books.
Chris discussed the trials of working with an editor who loves your punchlines but keeps rejecting them; Colleen talked about the importance of having lots of horrible ideas so that the chance of having a good one increases; and Misako revealed how Michael J. Fox inspired her to move to the United States, and how making a living in comics turned out to be easier than making a living as a puppeteer.
All in all, it was a hilariously informative afternoon. Huge thanks to Metuchen Library for hosting such a wonderful day, the Friends of the Metuchen Library for generously sponsoring it, Metuchen Matters for co-sponsoring and promoting it, and The Raconteur for hosting the artists’ reception afterwards.
