Your engagement session: what to wear

One of the most frequent questions we get from couples who are having an engagement session is, “What should we wear?” Of course there are no hard and fast rules, but we have a few suggestions on what you can do to look your best.

  • Our number one suggestion is: wear clothes that make you feel comfortable and attractive. The more relaxed and happy you are, the better!

  • Fitted clothes are generally more flattering than baggy.
  • Avoid anything with a busy pattern. Solid dark or bright colors photograph beautifully.

  • V-necks and open collars elongate the neck and bring the attention to your face.
  • Don’t be afraid to wear something that pops, like a red pair of shoes, colorful socks, a chunky piece of jewelry, etc.

  • Iron any clothing that tends to wrinkle.
  • You might also want to avoid sleeveless dresses or shirts — from some angles, they can make your arms look big.
  • Feel free to bring props — anything that might be fun for the two of you, like a frisbee, a guitar, sunglasses, a cowboy hat, a bicycle, a picnic blanket and a bottle of wine — whatever is fun and unique to you!
  • Wear clothes that are suitable for the season and the setting — if you want to feel free and casual, wear funky casual clothes, if you want to feel elegant, wear something more formal.
