Beekman Hotel Wedding, NYC: fun idea for wedding portrait

This fun and dramatic wedding portrait is in the lobby of the Beekman Hotel in downtown NYC. The Beekman is a fabulous place for unusual wedding photographs because of its ornate, distinctive architecture.

The Beekman was originally called the Temple Court Building and was the first “fireproof” office building in New York. Built in 1881, it has a brick and terra-cotta façade with a mash-up of popular styles fo the day: Queen Anne, neo-Grecian, and Renaissance Revival styles. As you can imagine, all that architectural excess makes an impact.

But the crown jewel of the building is the nine-story atrium, where this image was photographed. Standing at the bottom of the atrium, you gaze upwards at nine floors of wrought-iron balconies and Grecian-style colonnades.

Meghan and Pepe stayed at the Beekman Hotel and walked to their ceremony at St. Peter Roman Catholic Church just a few blocks away. They got some classic downtown outdoor portraits as they returned to the hotel after the mass, but this picture inside the hotel is one of our favorites.
