New York Botanical Garden Winter Wedding: Julia and Joe’s Classic Celebration

Julia & Joe planned a New York Botanical Garden wedding, during the Winter, and it was one for the books! The celebration was full of love and dancing, and the location was superb. This wedding taught us not to overlook wedding venues that we used to think of as seasonal.

Take a look at some of our favorite shots from Julia & Joe’s wedding, and be sure to check out the tips and takeaways we learned from their out-of-the-box planning.

A Winter Botanical Garden Wedding in New York

Wait, what?

It totally surprised us, too! Usually we picture flowers and greenery and lush nature when we think of a botanical garden wedding. But a winter wedding at the New York Botanical Garden? We were dying to see how it would all come together (and knowing Julia & Joe, we were certain it would come together beautifully).

The New York Botanical Garden: A Wedding Venue Hidden Gem

The NY Botanical Garden is one of NYC’s greatest hidden gems when it comes to wedding venues. And, it’s the perfect backdrop for a classic wedding reception, no matter the season.

Although Central Park is much better known, the Botanical Garden is truly just as special. It was established in 1891, and modelled after London’s Kew Royal Botanical Garden. The garden’s Enid Haupt Conservatory is a classic example of Victorian glasshouse architecture. And, it’s actually the largest botanical garden in the US! 250 acres of meadows, gardens, forest, and paths make it a dreamy place for a wedding!

Julia and Joe got married here at the tail end of winter, before anything started blooming, when the trees were still bare. The photos are proof that Botanical Garden is a photogenic and fabulous place to get married at any time of year.

Hilarious & Endearing Wedding Reception Candids

We asked Julia and Joe what they were most excited about for their big day. They said, “We’re looking most forward to celebrating our marriage. We both love to dance!” To get the party started, they hired a band. But, not just any band: Uncle Bob’s band! He plays the trumpet and even jumped in to play a few songs.

The night was a mix of touching moments (like Joe’s dance with his mother) and the kind of no-holds-barred celebrating you only see at a great wedding! You can tell by the looks on everyone’s faces that this was a night to remember.

Our Takeaway: Get Married in the Off-Season

If you want to spend a little less on your venue, or just can’t wait until the peak season to tie the knot, off-season weddings are a great option! And getting married during the off-season doesn’t mean your pictures will be dull, or that your wedding won’t be as beautiful as you hoped. Julia & Joe’s beautiful off-season photos at the New York Botanical Garden are proof of that!
