St. Moritz Elopement in the Swiss Alps | Europe Luxury Destination Wedding Switzerland
I flew into Zurich Airport a few days before the wedding and took some time to wander around the city. Exploring the streets, enjoying the architecture, and soaking in the local culture helped me settle into Switzerland and get excited for the upcoming destination wedding in St. Moritz.
The couple chose Switzerland naturally — one of their families is from there, and they’ve visited multiple times together. In fact, their engagement happened on a hiking trail that spirals through the mountains surrounding St. Moritz. Given their connection to the area, a destination wedding in the Swiss Alps was the perfect choice.
Besides the breathtaking setting, the bride looked stunning, guests came from near and far, and the weather cooperated with crystal blue skies and gusting clouds. The two flower girls were the cutest flower girls ever! They did an amazing job during the ceremony at Bergkirche Fex-Crasta, Santa Margarita — a charming chapel over 500 years old. Its historic stone walls and mountain backdrop made every moment feel timeless. We can’t stop smiling every time we look at these images.
I stayed in Sils im Engadin/Segl and enjoyed soaking up local culture whenever I had some free time. Those small experiences made the destination wedding feel grounded and gave extra context to photographing the day in a way that reflects both the couple and the place.
Getting ready, cocktail hour, and the reception all took place at Hotel & Restaurant Waldhaus am See, a lakeside hotel with understated elegance. It provided a natural flow from preparation to celebration, allowing every moment to feel relaxed and genuine. We also captured newlywed portraits by the chapel, with icy mountain glaciers rising in the distance, creating a quiet yet dramatic backdrop.
One of the most memorable moments was the bride arriving at the chapel with her father, traveling together through the mountain landscape. After the ceremony, the newlyweds rode a horse-drawn carriage with two horses to the hotel. The simplicity and elegance of these moments, combined with the alpine surroundings, made the day feel deeply connected to its location.
We also had a small adventure while scouting locations and during the rehearsal brunch. My assistant and I rented mountain bikes from a local shop, loaded them onto a cable car, and took in panoramic views of the Swiss Alps, with the emerald St. Moritzersee (Lake St. Moritz) below and cowbells ringing softly in the distance. It was completely unreal — a quiet, immersive experience that no 5D IMAX movie could replicate.
Overall, it was an incredible photography experience flying in from NYC. From the historic chapel to the alpine villages, glacier views, lakeside reception, and intimate local moments, every part of the day was rooted in its location. This is what makes destination wedding photography in the Swiss Alps so meaningful — the story is shaped just as much by the landscape, culture, and atmosphere as it is by the people.
