Nassau Inn Wedding Photos: a colorful June celebration

These Nassau Inn summer wedding photos showcase some of our favorite things about weddings in Princeton: historic architecture, picturesque gardens, stylish details, and down-to-earth people.

Claire and Steven are scientists who live in Boston, but Claire is originally from central New Jersey and they decided to get married at St. Ann’s, her family church in Lawrenceville, with a reception at the Nassau Inn. They had a lovely June wedding with about 90 friends and family as guests.

Because Claire grew up in the Princeton area, she knows the area well, and one place where she really wanted to have wedding portraits was in the garden at Morven House. The Morven Museum and Garden is located just a stone’s throw from downtown Princeton, and is a National Historic Landmark originally built in the 1750s. It was christened “Morven” by the wife of the original builder — “Morven” means “big mountain” in Gaelic.

The Colonial Revival garden at Morven House is an absolutely stunning backdrop for wedding portraits. There’s a formal front lawn lined by flowering Southern catalpa trees and American elms. The stately Greek Revival front porch that runs along the front of the house is draped with a verdant Chinese wisteria.

Claire picked a colorful palette for her wedding that looked just gorgeous against the elegant backdrop of the Morven House. The bridesmaids wore knee-length party dresses in a range of teal and turquoise colors and the groomsmen wore sky-blue ties. And her opulent bouquet made quite a statement: a lavish bunch of fuschia, apricot, and pale pink peonies framed with pale lime green hellebores.

Both flowers and decor were by Kristin Rockhill, a talented event designer based in nearby Bucks County. I can’t resist including a picture of the jaunty cake table that she festooned with more brightly colored flowers and geometric accents in the Nassau Inn’s Prince William ballroom.

And one more picture I have to mention: the portrait of Claire with her mom. What a smile on her mom’s face! She couldn’t have looked happier or more proud if she tried. 😉
