Destination Wedding Photography

Kyo is Japanese and grew up outside Osaka, while Janna is American but spent part of her childhood in Europe. So we love working with couples who come from different cultures and we are very comfortable working in diverse settings and with a wide range of people. It’s probably no surprise, then, that we love working with people who are planning a destination wedding.

One thing that many of our destination weddings have had in common is that the bride and groom picked their wedding location because it had deep personal meaning for them. Here are a few examples:

Sam and Adam: a rustic mountaintop wedding in St. Moritz, Switzerland

Samantha and Adam got married in a tiny Romanesque church in the Swiss Alps and held their reception in a hotel overlooking Lake St. Moritz in Switzerland. Adam’s mother is from Switzerland and he proposed to her when they were visiting his relatives and went on a hike together in the Alps.

Yuu and Phil: an East-meets-West wedding in Kyoto, Japan

Yuu and Phil got married at Heian Shrine in Kyoto and held their reception at the Garden Oriental (now called The Sodoh Higashiyama Kyoto.) Yuu told us, “I grew up going to the Heian Shrine, and as a kid, I saw many wedding scenes there. It has a beautiful garden with a pond and a very traditional Japanese bridge, with the ancient architecture of the shrine in the background. The contrast between the lush green of the garden and the lacquered red of the shrine is very spiritual for Japanese people. It was always my dream place to get married.”

Heather and Paco: an off-the-beaten-track wedding in the Talamanca cloud forest, Costa Rica

Heather and Paco got married on a mountaintop in San Gerardo de Dota, Costa Rica. Heather grew up in the U.S. but her mom is Costa Rican and she always wanted to go back to Costa Rica to live for a while when she grew up. Little did she know that she’d move there after college, meet Paco, and never come back! They decided to get married in San Gerardo de Dota, a tiny, rustic resort in the Talamanca cloud forest. They put their rings in a hummingbird’s nest because of the importance of birds in their lives (they now run a Costa Rican eco-tour company specializing in birding tours.)
